WORKSHOPS
Silk Painting November 12th
Award winning artist, Marianna Ross, will be conducting a silk painting workshop at Gateway Center for the Arts. The workshop will take place on November 12th from 10am to 3pm. Cost is $65 per person for members and $70 for non-members.
Marianna is a retired professor of art from Seminole State College. Her paintings hang throughout the United States. Currently her exhibits are in the Bank of America, AAA in Heathrow, Orlando Public Art Collection, and at Walt Disney World.
Silk painting, a traditionally Eastern medium, uses a water based resist with dye-like, transparent paints (like watercolors) to create rich color magic. Each student will start with a 12”x15” silk sample and paint a 26”x26” hemmed silk scarf which can be either framed or worn. In order to complete the paintings during the allotted workshop time, each student should come prepared with outline drawings for the sample and the scarf (24”x24” drawing), plus any other designs, sketches, or fabric swatches for references. Stained glass designs can provide inspiration and the Morse Museum in Winter Park is a great resource. When sketching, know that shapes larger than apples are easier to paint.
This workshop is limited to 5 to 10 students so it is important for you to register and pay for the workshop no later than November 4th.
